Here is what some of our past participants have said about the series...

I highly recommend Michael Miller’s year long Orthopaedics class. Michael and I first met almost 20 years ago when we were both preparing for our OCS exam, me a student and Michael an assistant to the instructor. After completing that year long course I passed my exam and have been in private practice ever since.

When it came time to renew my OCS certification I searched out Michael and enrolled in his year long course. Michael is an excellent therapist with extraordinary manual therapy skills. His class is well organized and informative. He moves month to month covering every joint in a well organized manner.

I have and would refer any of my patients to Michael to treat because he is the Luke Skywalker of orthopaedics and in his class he shares all of this with his students.

So for those therapists looking to improve their manual therapy skills and/or to understand the DSP of the OCS exam, Michael’s class is the best!

If you have any questions about my experience in Michael’s class please feel free to contact me 310-503-1339.

Excellent Learning Experience: I initially took Michael’s course to understand the DSP for the OCS exam and as a method to improve my hands-on Manual Therapy skills. I found the course to be a great experience both the didactic portion and the lab sessions. I was challenged to expand my thought processes and was able to utilize the information learned the next week after class every time. Based on some of the interview techniques taught, I completely re-vamped my patient interview technique. I now develop better rapport with my new patients, and glean much needed information earlier in the process. My clinical practice changed, my patient interactions were improved and my job satisfaction increased as a result.

As a company we have been so pleased with the results demonstrated by our staff, we attempt to send all of our new clinicians to Michael’s course. As the Director of the Gaspar Doctors of Physical Therapy Orthopedic Residency Program, we also use Michael’s course to meet the educational requirements for our Orthopedic Residents. I cannot say enough about Michael’s course work. New grad or experienced clinician, there is something for every therapist regardless of experience.

Career Altering Course

I took Michael Miller’s orthopedic series back in 2008, and it was without a doubt the most beneficial course I’ve taken during my entire (25 year) career. The format is very conducive to learning and builds upon itself nicely. Each day-long session focuses on a specific area, and the scheduling (15 separate weekend days) allows time to go back to the clinic to practice techniques then return with follow-up questions. Michaels teaching approach is extremely solid—he’s exceptionally skillful, and manages to convey the information in an approachable (in fact entertaining) manner.

I really enjoyed the camaraderie within the class too. It’s a rare opportunity to meet and work closely with a whole new group of people who share an interest in improving their manual skills. Many of us have stayed in touch since leaving the course for professional or social reasons, so the benefits just keep coming.

I have to say this is the most inclusive and thorough orthopedic series I’ve ever taken. The clinical skills taught in this course are not only generalizable to the orthopedic population, but also 100% evidence based. Michael does a fantastic job of relating to each and every member in the course, as he was able to teach the same curriculum to learners of all skill levels.

More than just preparing me to sit me understand the Description of Specialty Practice which the foundation for the OCS exam (which it did, without a doubt), this course has really helped take my clinical reasoning to a whole new level. Michael takes the foundational aspects of orthopedics and expands on them, helping you think outside the box when it comes to assessment, intervention, and patient interaction.

If you’re looking for a course that will help you prep for the OCS exam understand orthopaedics at the specialty level while also contributing immensely to your orthopedic clinical skills, this course is for you!

Great course!!!

I have been to a lot of Orthopaedic continuing education courses; Michael Miller’s Orthopaedic Manual therapy course has been the absolute best so far.

We covered current evidence based literature, interview skills, clinical decision strategies. We practiced manual treatments including grade V manipulations in an environment that was stress free and conducive to learning. The course is spread out over a year so there was ample time to practice, ask questions and practice again.

My evaluations are now more concise; my treatments are more effective and target the patient’s complaints better than before. The didactic review will give me confidence to sit for the OCS and I am far more confident with manual treatments. I am inspired and my passion for therapy is renewed because of this course.

It’s great to witness someone who really loves what they do and Michael really loves to help therapist be better at what they do.

Michael’s Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Seminars have helped me improve my manual therapy skills, consider the psychosocial aspects for my patients, and understand the Description of Specialty Practice for the OCS exam. He has a wealth of knowledge and is generous with his time to help us all learn and grow to become better physical therapists. Coming from a strong movement science background, it was important for me to open up my eyes (and hands!) to learn the manual therapy skills and the clinical reasoning behind each skill. I believe it is difficult for all patients to get well solely with movement system impairments correction, or just with manual therapy. I feel that his yearlong course helped me become more well-rounded PT.

I keep Michael’s textbooks from the course handy in the clinic, because they are wonderful resource to go back to review manual therapy information (especially for the distal extremities, which are not as frequently seen as spine / shoulder / hip / knee patients). He also refers to many peer-reviewed articles so the course participants know that the information being taught is evidence-based and current. Since we spend so much time together, I have also made many PT friends through this course. Thank you Michael for your teachings, and getting me started on this fun journey!

I took Michael Miller’s Long Term Orthopaedic Seminars in 2001. At the time, I had 4 years’ experience as a PT. Throughout the course, I had many “aha” moments that got me excited to go back to work on Monday. I just could not wait to apply what I learned that weekend. I also had many “oh man” moments that made me wish I had taken the course earlier in my career. I thought about so many more patients that I could have helped reach higher levels of function.

Here I am 12 years later and a ton more continuing education under my belt and I still use so many of the techniques I learned in Michael’s course. Since opening my own practice in 2004, we have sent at least a dozen PTs through this course. There has not been a PT our practice has sent who has not passed the OCS exam on their first try after taking Michael’s course.

Young physical therapists, would you like a solid manual therapy foundation to launch your career? Then this course is a must!

Do you have a goal of passing the OCS exam? This course will help you understand the Description of Specialty Practice (DSP) which s the foundation of the OCS examination. Understanding the DSP will help for preparation for the OCS examination and successful attainment of certification.

Fellow practice owners, how much joy do you get from watching your team grow in their skills and ability? Every PT we have ever sent to this course came back and thanked me multiple times. They truly recognized that this was a game changer in their career and helped our practice grow with what they applied.

I highly recommend this course for anyone working in the orthopedic setting. It is more than worth the time commitment and every penny spent!

“The year long course is the best series of classes I have taken in my career! I learned so much and continually apply the very practical course information into my patient care. Michael is incredibly knowledgeable and teaches in an easy to comprehend manner where questions and interaction is encouraged. I highly recommend this course!”

As a seasoned therapist I was a little apprehensive about attending Michael’s class with so many younger therapists, but Michael quickly put us all at ease with his easy going teaching style. He readily engages the students with interesting stories and mixes practice of techniques with lecture at the appropriate amounts so as to make the day go quickly. There was ample time to practice techniques and he and his associate teacher were readily available to answer questions and demonstrate. Michael has a wealth of knowledge which he very willingly shares. This class is well worth the money spent and is the best continuing education class I have ever taken.

I found Michael Miller’s year long course extremely beneficial and I highly recommend it to all PTs practicing in the orthopedic field. Since taking his course, I feel I have greater confidence in my manual skills and I am able to apply the techniques we learned in class into my patient care each day. Michael is a great instructor. He makes everything very easy to understand and is very open to questions. I feel like I have learned so much throughout the course that I can safely say this is the best con ed course I have taken.

An invaluable experience: Michael’s course is more than an orthopedic review. The dynamic class experience helps review some familiar and some new manual techniques which can be applied clinically from head to toe. My manual skills and efficiency of examination and intervention improved throughout the course and I’m a better therapist since completing this series. The series inspired me to sit for my upcoming OCS exam and provided a great framework for preparing for the test. Michael is an enthusiastic, patient and knowledgeable speaker and clinician. His passion for physical therapy is evident in his teaching style. I would highly recommend this course for anyone interested in improving their orthopedic physical therapy, hands-on skills and efficiency in practice.

Whether you’re a new graduate fresh out of PT school looking to improve your manual skills or knowledge base, or an seasoned PT looking to get back into the orthopedic setting, Michael Miller’s year long Orthopedic Physical Therapy Seminar course is geared to help therapist become better critical thinkers, clinical reasoners, and better practitioners. Michael’s course not only provided a thorough overview of anatomy and biomechanics, but he also provided lectures on ethics, interviewing skills, and an evidence based review of the literature all of which are important in becoming a competent clinician. Michael’s course is primarily lab based which has helped me improve my manual skills tremendously. I feel much more confident with my skills and he helped improve my ability of clinical reasoning which has made me a much for efficient yet effective physical therapist.

Michael’s teaching skill is professional yet he is extremely approachable and personable. He ensures that everyone is comfortable with each technique prior to moving on and is always willing to answer any questions or concerns that one may have when performing something new or unfamiliar. The camaraderie of the class during each session helped promote a great learning environment as each shared their own personal experiences in the clinic and also provided me with a strong network of therapists.

Michael’s class is certainly a commitment, the class is well worth the sacrifice of my weekend as it has improved my patient interview skills, clinical assessment, and manual therapy techniques. His class has given me the confidence and and a great understanding of the DSP to sit for the OCS in the future. All in all, it’s great to learn from someone who loves what they do, and Michael is certainly passionate about getting patients better, but also making each therapist that takes his class a better clinician. I highly recommend this class to all those looking to become better physical therapists in all aspects of their practice.

I took the course as a new graduate hoping to expand my manual skills, and it did just that. I found that I could put them to use immediately in the clinic. Not only that, but I find myself taking courses now, and being much better with my hands than many of the other participants my age. A year and a half later, my goal was to study for, and pass, the OCS…and I did! I am so grateful for the great experience of this course.

Thanks Michael!!

I attended Michael Miller’s Learning Movements course in 2011. This was, by far the best choice I have made in my physical therapy career. Michael has developed a fantastic course. It is well organized, current and highly applicable to any orthopedic clinician.

I took this course in preparation for the OCS exam – which I passed the first time around, thanks to Michael and the Learning Movements course. Although this was a great reason to take the seminar, it is not the only reason to attend the Learning Movements Seminar Series. Many clinicians were attending to get current again (some had paused their careers to raise children), and some were new grads who wanted to improve their thought process and manual skills. There are so many reasons to take this course – you can’t go wrong!

I can’t say enough about the positives of this course. In bullet point fashion, here are the things that stood out and make this seminar series well worth the time, effort and money:
• excellent organization of materials
• practical, hands on learning that is effective and positive
• teaching style that caters to all types of learning styles
• RESULTS! Both in the clinic and in the testing environment
• a community (your classmates) which lasts beyond the weekends you spend together

The Learning Movements Seminar Series has made a profound impact on the way I treat in the clinic, and has helped not only my career, but each patient I come into contact with. I have only the highest recommendation for this course.

Michael is organized and methodical in everything he does, to the benefit of both his patients and students alike. His clinical approach is research-based at heart, and very importantly, takes into account patient psychosocial factors. He will clearly state when he is giving his occasional opinions based on his years of patient experience. His course is set up to allow for knowledge application between sessions while being flexible enough to accommodate working PTs. He makes spending hours in lab fun. On top of a solid orthopedics course, his lecture material and practice exams give an excellent foundation of the Description of Specialty Practice for Orthopaedics, the foundation of the OCS exam. Michael’s seminar series was hands down the best use of my time, money, and energy for solidifying and advancing my orthopedic and manual skills.

With regards to continuing-education courses, Dr. Michael Miller’s course is one that I consider great value for the cost. While our lectures and demonstrations came from Mike, we had both Mike and the assistant instructor, Chad who is also very bright and skilled, help during practice of manual skills and biomechanical analysis. Thus the ratio of instructors to students was great in which I felt I received enough attention and help whenever I needed. I always came into each session with many clinical questions and Mike and Chad never hesitated to stay after class to help answer my questions.

I felt that I gained a large array of tools to add to my bag. It wasn’t just manual skills and corrective exercises, but also I gained knowledge that helped me improve in active listening, patient interviewing and education, addressing the psychosocial component of a patient, and the therapist-patient interaction. It was also helpful to learn different ways to perform some of the techniques I have already learned in the past. In addition, Mike’s course was fun as we spent most of the day in the interactive lab portion. I could certainly see the improvement I made as a clinician over the past year. Without a doubt, I would definitely recommend Dr. Michael Miller’s course to my peers.

This class is the best class I’ve taken. I took it to further my education and career in which it met my objectives as well as Michael’s stated objectives. Michael is an excellent instructor who is fun and entertaining, but professional and knows the material well. What I liked the most is having a years’ worth of patients coming through your door and being able to come back to class with questions and practice the techniques again if you didn’t have a patient to try it on. Most classes I have taken, I don’t retain all the information and techniques. This course gives you the advantage to come back and work through your questions or techniques. I highly recommend this course to new grads because it puts it all in perspective and to older clinicians as it give one an eclectic approach and strong manipulative skills.

This was hands down the best course I have ever taken. I only wish I would have taken it sooner! It has changed the way I look at and perform my assessments and treatments. Several people recommended this class to me and they were spot on!

Michael’s format and content are superb and flow in a nice well thought out structure and timeline. Because of the way it’s set up, not only did we maximize our learning experience but I formed friendships and contacts with many like minded professionals. If you are into Manual Orthopedics than this class is a must, even if you don’t want to take the test.

Michael’s methods are a combination of well researched evidence based diagnostic testing, assessments and treatments that are pulled from many top therapist in the field and include MET, mobilization with movement and Grade V mobilizations. He has compiled a complete course that covers every major orthopedic issue out there and has done so in the most succinct and efficient way possible. And more importantly in a way that works. I was truly amazed at how by the end of the course I was able to test, diagnose and treat with positive results in half the time I used to! Not only that, but I truly felt comfortable doing it. Unlike taking a weekend course where you might try a few things on Monday morning then stop when they don’t go perfect.

This course puts you on track for treating patients in the most efficient, positive and well researched methods out there today. The written course content and articles were essential in my studying for the OCS exam and were very helpful. There are so many other positive things I could say right now, but there is not enough room to write about it here and you’re just going to have to see for yourself!

Again, I am so glad I took this class and I am so grateful that Michael is providing this service to our profession.

This is a very beneficial course to help you learn how to be a more analytical therapist and adds a plethora of manual interventions to your PT toolbox. First and foremost, it’s an orthopaedic manual therapy course. The sessions are designed to break down each joint and review the most commonly seen impairments, and manual interventions to help achieve progress patient past this deficit. Michael surveys the room at the beginning of each session and identifies impairments and performs interventions with a specific purpose and we see the benefits in real-time. This can’t be done however without learning how to truly assess for each impairment. This filled in a lot of gaps for my practice and helped me take my assessment and manual skills to the next level. I also recommend this to those clinicians looking to sit for the OCS, or for someone looking for a fellowship type course.
